Chapter 1- Contemplation

Father Samuel jerked upright in his narrow bed, the chill of dawn clinging to his skin as if the nightmare had followed him into the waking world. His breath came in ragged gasps, and the echo of screeching tires and shattering glass still rang in his ears. In the dream—so vivid it felt like memory—he had seen his wife’s face twisted in fear, her hand protectively cradling the curve of her belly just before the impact. The silence that followed had been the most harrowing part. He pressed trembling hands to his face, trying to will away the images of a broken bloody body but they lingered like smoke in a chapel. He had taken his vows several years after the accident, long after grief had left him empty and broken in heart and the mind. The haunting dream, which plagued him almost every night unless he took more of the Lord’s communal wine to ease his bitter thoughts and memories, reminded him that some wounds would never fully heal—only recede into the silence of prayer. The morning li...

The Door

I wake with a start to darkness Dark is the night as I search around me Nothing to cling to or hold me tight  All I hear are the screams  I reach out searching for hope  Nothing to feel or see Blindly grasping and calling out for help or support No one can hear Nothing is here The screams continue around me At last the door I find I reach out opening  As the door opens there's nothing to see No one can hear me The screams surround me.

Death’s Door

As I lay in bed, I feel it closing in. The beat is slowing. My eyes are further closing. No one is here to see me off. Do you think they knew? That I was running out of time? How often did they think that I was slowly on the brink? The corners of the room are dark and it’s closing in. Soon I will be taken. Where is everyone?

Pets

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night to see your pet staring at the corner of your room?  According to your sight, nothing is there.  But the pet has a terrified expression on their face and can’t look away.  They stay like that for minutes and minutes.  Time goes by.  They are still right there looking at whatever they are seeing in that corner.  Some people say they can see apparitions or ghosts or spirits. Maybe they have the sixth sense themselves.  I guess we will never know…

The Endless Void

Falling… falling… falling… Which way is up? Which way is down? Where am I going? It’s dark in here… But I hear the laughter … I hear voices surrounding me… I can’t see… What do I do ? It’s never ending … I just keep falling … There’s no end… It will never end…

Looking Outside

You look out the window  But you cannot see. What is this feeling? It simply cannot be. Comes upon you  And feels you with dread. Surely you will end up dead. Lock your doors.  Run and hide. Nothing can stop it when it comes inside. Run…run… run…

The Broken Body

Thoughts are racing,  Mind is going, Can't keep on, I can't keep on. Slowly creeping, always waiting,  feel it closing, I feel it closing. Bones are cracking, faith is failing, starting to fall,  I am starting to fall. No where to run, No where to hide, feel it coming, I feel it coming. Giving out,  and giving up, it is over now, I am over now.
